If I were to be bold and describe ‘Bright Lights’ (‘Lights’ re-release complete with six extra tracks), it would be like stepping into aural heaven. Ellie Goulding has the breathy, ethereal angelic voice that I just want to hear more of (and we did, on the 2010 John Lewis christmas ad with her cover of Elton John’s ‘Your Song); this debut is an absolute triumph. Little Boots might have tried, but with producer Starsmith on her side, Ellie steals the show, not only with singles 'Lights’, ‘Starry Eyed’ and ‘The Writer’, but the entire frigging album is so very solid – my favourites being ‘Guns and Horses’ and ‘Little Dreams’. It isn’t often I find an album I can listen to from start to finish without skipping, but this is definitely one I’ll continue to come back to for years to come.
